The Challenge

Melbourne Market Authority had strong brand guidelines and clear strategies, but they needed someone who could consistently translate those into compelling visuals across every medium imaginable. As Victoria's only wholesale fruit, vegetable, and cut flower trading centre supporting 3,000 tenant businesses, clear communication isn't just nice to have - it's essential for safety, efficiency, and business success.

They needed a design partner who could adapt their message for everything from large-format safety animations on market floor screens to email newsletter banners, school program materials, and their sister brand campaigns - all while maintaining brand consistency.

The Solution

My role became their brand guardian, ensuring every design decision honoured their established visual identity while serving specific communication goals. Whether creating safety animations that needed to cut through the noise of a busy wholesale environment or developing consumer-friendly materials, I delivered designs that worked.

For safety communications, I used bold colours, clear typography, and unmistakable messaging. When hundreds of people operate forklifts and heavy machinery, there's no room for subtlety - clear visual communication literally saves lives.

The Sister Brand Challenge: A Better Choice

"A Better Choice" is a national initiative supporting over 800 independent fruit and vegetable retailers across Australia. The design challenge is creating materials that feel connected to the community and honour the existing brand guidelines.

I create accessible designs that emphasise freshness, quality, and support local businesses. Every piece has to persuade the audience to choose independent retailers against supermarket giants.

The Results

Four years later, the partnership continues to deliver. Safety messages are clear and effective. "A Better Choice" campaigns drive consumer engagement with independent retailers. Most importantly, brand consistency reinforces MMA's market leadership position.

The ongoing relationship has created efficiency - I understand their brand voice and operational constraints, and they trust my visual judgment. When they reach out every few months with new projects, we can move from brief to final artwork quickly without compromising quality.

Through this work, I've supported not just MMA's brand, but an entire ecosystem of Australian fresh produce businesses and the communities they serve.
